A. some in positive sentences:
We bought some cookies.
She's busy. She's got some work to do in the morning.
I want something to eat.

any in negative sentences:
She didn't buy any presents.
There isn't anybody in the house.
I don't want to anything to eat.

B. both some and any in questions:
Would you like something to eat?
Do you have any luggage?

C. any after if:
If there are any messages for me, send them on please.
Let me know if you need anything.

D. any with the meaning "it doesn't matter which":
"Which song do you want to hear?"
"Any song."
"Where do you want to go?"
"Anywhere you want."

E. Somebody/ someone/ anybody/ anyone are singular words:
Someone is waiting for you in guest room.
If anybody wants to leave early, they can.
