Comparison 2 (much better/ any better/ better and better/ the sooner the better)
A. 비교급 앞에 사용 가능:
much, a lot, far(=a lot), a bit, a little, slightly(=a little)
Let's order takeout food. It's much cheaper.
"How do you feel?" "Much better, thanks."
Don't go by taxi. It's a lot more expensive.
Could you swim a bit more slowly? (or a little more slowly)
This smart phone is slightly heavier than the other one.
My mother illness was far more serious than I thought at first. (or much more serious/ a lot more serious)
B. any와 no + 비교급 사용 가능(any longer/ no bigger, etc.)
I've worked long enough. I'm not working any longer. (= not even a little longer)
I expected your father to be very big, but he's no bigger than my father. or ... he isn't any bigger than my father. They are similar.
How do you feel now? Do you feel any better?
This hotel is better than the one I visited last time, and it's no more expensive.
C. Better and better/ more and more, etc.
어떤 것이 계속해서 변하고 있는 것을 말하기 위해 비교급 반복:
Your Spanish is improving. It's getting better and better.
Hanjun's baby is growing fast. He's getting bigger and bigger.
Ryu got more and more tired in his job. In the end, he quit.
There days more and more people are trying the exam to be a government officer.
D. The sooner the better
the (sooner/ bigger/ more, etc.) the better:
"What time should we leave?" "The sooner the better." (= as soon as possible)
"What size do you want to eat?" "The bigger the better."
When you're traveling, the less luggage you have the better.
하나가 다른 것에 연관되어 있을 때 the... the... 사용 가능:
The cooler the weather, the better I feel. (= if the weather is cooler, I feel better)
The younger you are, the easier it is to try anything.
The more I thought about you, the more I liked you.
E. Older and elder
old의 비교급은 older:
Cho looks older than he really is.
가족 중 누군가를 말할 때 elder(or older) 사용 가능: (my/ your, etc.) elder sister/ brother/ daughter/ son:
His elder sister is a nurse. (or His older sister...)
"my elder sister," 라고 표현하지만 somebody is elder 라고는 표현하지 않음:
His sister is older than me. (not elder than me)
