A. Study these examples:
Should I make or buy the lunch box?
You should make. It's ​cheaper.
Don't buy the lunch box. It's ​more expensive.
Cheaper and ​more expensive are comparative forms. 비교하는 형태임. 비교급.

비교급 뒤에 ​th​an 사용 가능.
It's ​cheaper to go by bus ​than by taxi.
Going by taxi is ​more expensive than going by bus.

B. 비교급 ​​​-er 또는 ​more...
짧은 단어에 ​-er 사용(one syllable, 1음절)
cheap -> cheap​er, ​fast -> fast​er
large -> larg​er, ​thin -> thinn​er

​-y로 끝나는 2음절(two-syllable) 단어에도​ -er사용
(​-y -> ​ier)
lucky -> luck​ier, ​early -> earl​ier
easy -> eas​ier, ​pretty -> prett​ier

더 긴 단어에는 more... 사용(2음절 이상)
​more serious, more often
more expensive, more comfortable


-ly로 끝나는 부사에도 more... 사용
​more slowly, more seriously
more quietly, more carefully


You're ​younger than me.
The nursing practice is not bad - ​better than I expected.
Can you walk a little ​slower?
I'd like to live in a ​bigger room.
You wake up ​earlier than me in these days.

You're ​more cute than me.
The report was pretty difficult - ​more difficult than I expected.
Can you walk a little ​more slowly?
I'd like to have a ​more reliable car.
I don't meet my friends much these days.
I used to meet ​more often.

몇몇 2음절 부사와​ -er 또는 ​more 사용가능:
​clever narrow quiet shallow simple

I don't like the noisy place. Can we go somewhere ​quieter/ more quiet?

C. 불규칙 비교급을 가진 형용사와 부사
irregular comparative forms:

​good/well -> better
I know her ​well. - probably ​better than anybody else who know her.

​bad/badly -> worse
"How is your headache? Better?" "No, it's ​worse."

​far -> farther (or further)
It takes long time from your home to the hospital - ​farther than you expected (or ​further than)

Further(but not farther) "more" or "additional"도 의미할 수 있다.
