by 김대리 2016. 8. 8.

UNIT90
Relative Clause 1:
Clauses with who/that/which

The man who lives next door is a professor.

A clauses(절): 문장의 일부분.

the man - he lives next door - is a professor
-> The man who lives next door is a professor

A firefighter is someone who extinguish the fire.
Anyone who failed the mock test must write a report.

The man that lives next door is a professor.
(not the man which)

B. 사물에 대해서는 관계사절에서 that이나 which(not who)를 사용가능.

where is the ice cream? - it was in the refrigerator
-> Where is the ice cream {that or which} was in the refrigerator?

I don't like movies that have ambiguous ending.
(or movies which have...)
Jang works for a company that makes air conditioner. (or a company which makes...)

C. What= "the thing(s) that."
what과 that을 비교.

What happened was my fault.(= the things that happened)
Everything that happened was my fault. (not Everything what happened)
The engine that broke down is now working again.

D. 관계사절에서는 he/she/they/it이 아닌 who/that/which를 사용한다는 것을 기억할 것.
I've never spoken to the girl who lives next door. (not the girl she lives)
