UNIT114
Like and as

A. Like= "similar to," "the same as" as를 이런 식으로 쓸 수 없다:
What a beautiful eyes! It's like diamonds. (no as diamonds)
"What does G.Na do?" "She's a nurse, like me." (not as me)
Be careful! The floor has been polished. It's like walking on ice. (not as walking)
It's raining again. I hate weather like this. (not as this)

명사(like diamonds)나 대명사(like me/ like this) 또는 -ing(like walking) 형태가 뒤에 온다.
... like (somebody/something) doing something:
으로도 말할 수 있다:
"What's that noise?" "It sounds like a cat crying."

B. 때로 like= for example:
Some sports, like motor cycle, can be dangerous.
such as 도 사용 가능(= for example):
Some sports, such as motor cycle, can be dangerous.

C. As= in the same way as, or in the same condition as.
I didn't touch anything. I left everything as it was.
You should have done it as I showed you. (= the way I showed you)

I left everything like it was.

as와 like 비교:
You should have done it as I showed you. (or like I showed you)
You should have done it like this. (not as this)

as usual/ as always도 쓴다:
He is late as usual.
As always, Sofia was the first to arrive.

You can do as you like. (= do what you like)
They did as they promised. (= They did what they promised)

as you know/ as I said/ as she expected/ as I thought, etc
As you know, it's 200 days anniversary next month. (= you know this already)
Anna failed her driving test, as she expected.
(= she expected this before)

Likesay와 함께 쓰일 때를 제외하고는 위와 같은 표현들에 사용되지 않는다(like I said):
As I said before, I have to go to her wedding next month. or Like I said before...

Sofia is the manager of a bakery. As the manager, she has to check the quality and expiration date of many products. (As the manager= in her position as the manager)

Sajang is the assistant manager. Like the manager(Sofia), he also has to check the quality and expiration date of products. (Like the manager= similar to the manager)

As(preposition)= in the position of, in the form of, etc.:
Last year I worked as a research worker. (not like a research worker)
Gyeongju is all right as a place to visit, but it's not safety to live there now because of the earthquakes.
