UNIT115
Like/ as if/ as though
You can use like to say how somebody or something looks/ sounds/ feels:
That building looks like it's going to fall down.
She had just come back from vacation, but she feel very tired. She don't feel like she just had a vacation.
이러한 예들에 as if와 as though 모두 사용할 수 있다:
That building looks as if it's going to fall down.
She doesn't feel as though she just had vacation.
Like is more common in spoken English.
비교:
You look tired. (look + adjective)
You look like you didn't sleep last night.
as if
(look like / as if + subject + verb)
B. It looks like.../ It sounds like...
I took an umbrella because it looked like it was going to rain.
Do you feel that strange vibrations? It feels like the earthquakes.
as if와 as though도 사용 가능:
It looks as if she isn't coming.
It looks as though she isn't coming.
C. 누군가가 무엇인가를 어떻게 하는지 말하기 위해 like/ as if/ as though와 다른 동사들을 쓸 수 있다:
He ran like he was running for his life.
After the earthquakes, the minister kept on talking as if it was not serious situation.
When I told them my plan, they looked at me as though I was crazy.
I don't like him. He talks as if he knew everything.
He does not know everything.
Ace's only 29. Why do you talk about him as if he was an old man? (he isn't an old man) haha
Why do you talk about him as if he were (or was) an old man?
They treat me as if I were (or was) their own son. (I'm not their son)
