At first, you have to make your bank account to use a debit card. You can use your debit card to pay things if you have enough money in the bank account connected to the debit card.
When you use your debit card to pay for something, the swipe it, and POS(Point of sale) machine immediately deduct the actual amount of money from your bank account.
You don't need any credit to use the card, you cannot purchase anything if you don't have enough money in your account. How much you have is your limit.
